Toyota Safety Sense 2.0
Autonomous Emergency Braking System Reduces Crashes and ICBC Premiums
Insurance rates in British Columbia are among some of the highest in the country, but if you are driving a newer vehicle ICBC now recognizes that its safety features reduce the likelihood and severity of a crash. If your vehicle is equipped with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) ICBC offers 10% off of your basic coverage. This could equate to hundreds of dollars in annual savings! Every Toyota is eligible for this discount because Toyota Safety Sense features the Pre-Collision System (PCS) that will either prompt you to brake or automatically brake when it detects an imminent collision. Read more on our blog and/or Toyota Canada's site.
Toyota Safety Sense also includes these features:
Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection
Using an in-vehicle camera and a radar sensor or a laser sensor that are designed to help detect a vehicle or a pedestrian in front of you, the Pre-Collision System 39 with Pedestrian Detection 49 (PCS w/PD) is designed to help you mitigate or avoid a potential collision. If the system determines that a frontal collision is likely, it prompts you to take action using audio and visual alerts. If you notice the potential collision and apply the brakes, PCS w/PD may apply additional force using Brake Assist (BA). 40 If you don't brake in time, it may automatically apply the brakes to reduce your speed, helping to minimize the likelihood of a frontal collision or reduce its severity.
Available On: Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Camry, Camry Hybrid, C-HR, Land Cruiser, Corolla, Corolla Hybrid, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Prius, Prius Prime, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, Tundra, Sequoia, Tacoma, Sienna, Yaris Liftback,* Prius c
*Pedestrian Detection not available on Yaris Liftback.
Bicyclist Detection
During daylight conditions, the in-vehicle camera and a radar sensor or a laser sensor work together to help detect a bicyclist ahead and will prompt you to take action using audio and visual warnings if a collision is likely.
Available On: Corolla, Corolla Hybrid, Corolla Hatchback,
Lane Departure Alert
Under certain circumstances, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) 44 is designed to detect lane departure on roads with visible lane markings. LDA is designed to activate when you're traveling at a speed of 32 mph or higher. When you hear and see the alert, after carefully checking the road around you, you should safely direct your vehicle back to the center of your lane.
Available On: Standard on all TSS equipped vehicles
Steering Assist
Toyota vehicles equipped with Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P) 38 and Electronic Power Steering (EPS) include Steering Assist 41 48 functionality. When activated, the system may detect unintentional drifting and may automatically make small corrective steering inputs to help keep your vehicle in its lane.
Available On: Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Camry, Camry Hybrid, C-HR, Corolla, Corolla Hybrid, Corolla Hatchback, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Mirai, Prius, Prius Prime, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, Sienna
Road Edge Detection
Road Edge Detection 48 scans for the boundary between asphalt and the side of the road, such as grass, soil or a curb and helps keep drivers in their desired lane. If the system determines that the driver is not taking corrective steering action, the Steering Assist function 41 48 will initiate and provide gentle corrective steering to help keep your Toyota in the lane.
Available On: Corolla, Corolla Hybrid, Corolla Hatchback
Automatic High Beams
The Automatic High Beams (AHB) 52 feature is a safety system designed to help you see more clearly at night-without distracting other drivers. Designed to activate at speeds above 25 mph, AHB relies on an in-vehicle camera to help detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of preceding vehicles, then automatically toggles between high and low beams accordingly. By using high beams more frequently, the system may allow earlier detection of pedestrians and obstacles.
Available On: Standard on all available TSS equip vehicles
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
Intended for highway use and similar to "constant speed" cruise control, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) 42 lets you drive at a preset speed. DRCC uses vehicle-to-vehicle distance control, which adjusts your speed, to help you maintain a preset distance from vehicles ahead of you that are driving at a slower speed. DRCC uses a front-grille-mounted radar and an in-vehicle camera designed to detect vehicles and their distance. If a driver is traveling slower than you, or within your preset range, DRCC will automatically slow your vehicle down without deactivating cruise control. If DRCC determines you need to slow down more, an audio and visual alert notifies you and brakes are applied. When there's no longer a vehicle driving slower than your preset speed in front of you, DRCC will then accelerate to your preset speed.
Available On: Corolla, Corolla Hybrid, Camry, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Land Cruiser, Mirai, Prius, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra
Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
Full-Speed Range DRCC 37 48 is designed to operate between 0-110 mph. This enables low-speed following, matching speed and, under certain circumstances, stopping before colliding with preceding vehicles on highways. The Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control feature is available only with an automatic transmission.
Available On: Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Corolla, Corolla Hybrid, C-HR, Corolla Hatchback, Prius, Prius Prime
Road Sign Assist
Road Sign Assist (RSA) 50 helps bring added awareness to your drive. Using a forward-facing intelligent camera, Road Sign Assist is designed to detect speed limit signs, stop signs, do not enter signs and yield signs, and display them on the MID.
Available On: Corolla, Corolla Hybrid, Corolla Hatchback, Mirai, RAV4
Lane Tracing Assist
When Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) 37 48 is enabled and lane markers are visible, Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) 43 48 uses the lines on the road and preceding vehicles to help keep the vehicle centered while also displaying the vehicle's position on the MID screen. The system was designed to reduce driver strain and increase convenience, and benefit drivers most during traffic jams-but can be turned off using the MID. The Lane Tracing Assist feature is available with an automatic transmission; not available with a manual transmission.
Available On: Corolla, Corolla Hybrid, Corolla Hatchback, RAV4
